Cucumber contains most daily required vitamins and minerals

Sliced Cucumber

Today’s Amazing Fact:

Cucumber contains most daily required vitamins and minerals

It is quite amazing and such a relief to know that cucumbers contain the most vitamins you need in a day. Just one cucumber contains vitamin B1, vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

Cucumber is one of the very low calorie vegetables, it provides just 15 calories per 100 g. It contains no saturated fats or cholesterol. Cucumber is a good source of dietary fibers (both soluble and insoluble) that helps reduce constipation, and offer some protection against colon cancers by eliminating toxic compounds from the gut.

Not  only do cucumber contains  no cholesterol, it also helps lowers the level of LDLs (these are the bad cholesterols) in the body. Cucumbers have mild diuretic property, which perhaps attributed to their free-water, and potassium and low sodium content. This helps in checking weight gain and high blood pressure.

Are you feeling tired in the afternoon, I will advise to put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up calorie on the go which will last for hours.

It is a very good source of potassium, an important intracellular electrolyte. 100 g of cucumber provides 147 mg of potassium but only 2 mg of sodium. Potassium is a heart friendly electrolyte helps bring a reduction in total blood pressure and heart rates by countering effects of sodium.

They surprisingly have a high amount of vitamin K that provides about 17 µg of this vitamin per 100 g. Vitamin-K has been found to have a potential role in bone strength by promoting osteotrophic (bone mass building) activity suggesting its effectiveness against arhthritis and rheumatism. It also has established role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease patients by limiting neuronal damage in their brain.

Cucumbers contains unique anti-oxidants in moderate ratios such as ß-carotene and α-carotene, vitamin-C, vitamin-A, zea-xanthin and lutein. These compounds help act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging and various disease processes. Their total antioxidant strength, measured in terms of oxygen radical absorbance capacity is 214 µmol TE/100 g

Really want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache.

It will be appropriate describing cucumber in this summary ‘as a repair and corrective gift of nature’. Make  a plan for  cucumber blends this weekend and be amazed how the next week  go.
